Issue with positioning text

Having a bit of trouble positioning text - driving me mad!

The first screenshot shows the opening bars of my piece. All I want to do is add a simple expression mark to the opening. However, whenever I type in an expression mark, it ends up "attached" to the hairpin as shown in the second screenshot.

Any ideas how to avoid this?

Select this expression text/mark, and in the Properties panel, at "Position", click on "Above" (or simply type shortcut "X")?
And if you prefer another location (?), untick "Auto-place" (still in Properties panel).
