note heads

Hi

I've got a piece for clarinets where two parts start with percussion. Their clarinet contribution comes later, still on the same line.

Where percussion is required I would like to change the note heads to X, so it's more obviously percussion, but they refuse to be changed. Weirdly, I can change note heads on other lines where percussion is not involved, but not on the ones where it is.

In the beginning I started with "one leger line" type percussion parts, but discovered, when 'change to clarinet' came along, I couldn't put five leger lines into just that section of the part. It had to be five lines all the way along.

I have attached the .mscz file.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you in anticipation.

I can't reproduce it, but maybe I'm not in the right place.
Can you please specify the measure numbers where the problem lies for you?

Sorry. That hasn't worked. I think the impediment might be a percussion part written into a tuned line; i.e. on the five lines that will later be needed for a clarinet part. I need to convince the clarinet player, that just for now, it's a percussion note, not a tuned note.

If still interested, for "one leger line" type percussion part, have a look at this:

N.B.: for the 'change to clarinet', also change the staff type to 5 lines, see:

P.S.: For percussion cross X head (what @cadiz1 mentioned), see:
