single melody line
When I start a new composition, there is automatically both treble and bass clef. I only want the trebel clef for the melody line. How do I get rid of the other?

Choose an instrument that uses only one stave/clef - i.e. an instrument other than piano. See https://handbook.musescore.org/basics/setting-up-your-score
and

It sounds as though you are starting your score with a keyboard instrument, hence both treble and bass clef.
You need to choose the correct treble-clef instrument (or voice) when creating a new score. You have the opportunity to choose when you use the New Score wizard.
Another method would be to open the Layout panel (upper left), expand the two-stave instrument (as srated, likely Piano), select the bass clef staff, and click the trash can icon to delete it.
Be aware that you can delete the entire instrument like this, so be sure to select the staff rather than the instrument.
