convert sheet music to .mscz
What happened? Did that neat little service just disappear? Or have I forgotten how to do it, or something? Or is not where it used to be?

It is no longer where it used to be! But it is still File -> Import PDF.

Thank you, but that's where I went the first time, and got this bewildering new dialogue about publishing "my score" (which it isn't) and how to claim copyright and everything, which I cannot do because it isn't mine. It's a piece of sheet music that I want to convert into a sound file so I can get out the piece of it that I want.

Then you need a locally installed programme. There are paid programmes, but there is also a free one: Audiveris, which is available via Github.

... or you simply have to transcribe the score - with Musescore.
