Best Soundfont Forum

• Nov 8, 2014 - 16:47

I'm looking for the best general soundfont forum on the internet. I REALLY want to learn the secrets to making good soundfonts.

I made one for my private use that was quite pitiful.

The tutorial I found on YouTube is too rudimentary.

I dowloaded one or two fonts from the internet with some annoying clicks in the waveform to which I would like to attempt repair.

The only soundfont program I have is the free Viena (one 'n').

Especially, I want to learn how they created the ProTrax guitar font that makes a fret noise when you lift your finger from the keyboard. I've studied this font and I can't figure out how they achieved that effect.

You didn't look hard enough in Viena.

If you look at the Instruments you'll see that some of the notes have a second sample which is only triggered during the release phase of playback.

I suggest that before you try to create your own soundfonts, that you take some time out to learn some of the principles of good sound design, become confident with using a sampler editor, and learn about the way samples and synthesis can be used to create such realistic sounds.

Use VST or online synths to learn about the difference between subtractive and additive synthesis, and how they can be used to modify instrument samples.

Once you understand how sound can be synthesised you can then go on to start building soundfonts.

Google will provide you with vast quantities of tutorials and information if you ask it to :)
