Repeats

• Nov 11, 2008 - 17:46

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me how to configure the repeats in order to have them working after a Da Capo return?
I read the handbook but didn't find a way to do that.

Default behaviour of current mscore is to not repeat repeats within repeats. So a normal repeat is not expanded in a Da Capo. Is it standard to play repeats in a Da Capo? Or is a configuration parameter ("repeat within repeat") or
more specific "repeat in Da Capo" necessary?

Da Capo should be just a jump to the first measure and then play everything again exactly as written. If it is necessary that mscore plays the repeats within repeats or not, I prefer to say that such feature is desirable, not mandatory.
best regards.

Generally you ignore any repeats when playing through music after a Da Capo or Dal Segno repeat.

I would recommend against a configuration parameter since this adds unnecessary complexity for the user and the program. MuseScore is not a sequencer and playback is just to give a general impression.

For comparison Finale 2007 ignores Da Capo and Dal Segno markings entirely. Sibelius 5 matches the playback behavior of MuseScore 0.9.4 prereleases.

David, I didn't have intetion to ask a new feature. But I have many scores that falls out of the general rule.

You're right, Finale 2006/7 ignores the repeats but not entirely, if you have 1st and 2nd endings Finale plays the 2nd one after a Da Capo/Segno call.

I'm an amateur music player and I'm using mscore to play along with it before start playing with the printed sheet as I used to do with Finale, that's why playing repeats is important to me.

Anyway, mscore is the best and easiest score editor I found for Linux.
