With a not selected, right click something else.
The other element is not indicated as selected, while it is used as input for the 'Select' from the context menu.

This can only be seen when going to 'select' -> 'more..'

This is a feature. In the "More..." dialog there is an option to "Add to selection", if a right click would deselect the current selection, this feature would be not usable, and one couldn't select rests and notes for example.

Also in the 'primary' selection there is no indication as to what element is being selected. Therefore, if the score is a little small (in display size) it becomes a sheer guess as to what is effectively selected. Also, in the context menu primary select I can't see what type of element is selected (it only states '... all simular elements').

So, I have to go to the whole selection process, and then find out it selected the wrong element, then undo the whole selection and try again.

I would expect the same behaviour as e.g. Excel, where, if one right clicks any cell, it first marks the cell as selected, and then displays the context menu.

In the context menu; the first entry says which element is selected.

Therefore, if the score is a little small (in display size)
Zooming is very easy with Ctrl + scroll.

As I explained earlier, if right click unselect the current selection to select the element one just right clicked, it's no more possible to add to the current selection.

OK, I've seen it now. Must have been blind not to have seen that before...

It a question of design. We don't necessarily have to adhere to the Microsoft way of working where one can do multiple selections (cntl/select), and then right click for the context menu for all of the selected items.

This indeed gives the oportunity to add other things to the selection.

Is there a way to select 'Everything on a staff in a voice' (notes, rests, text, etc.) or do I have to add them separately?

Anyway, go ahead and close the issue.

"By design" is as good as closed :-)

To select everything in a give staff voice, first select everything on the staff normally, then use View / Selection Filter to deselect the voices you don't want.
