Notehead change in vocal parts, adding lyrics

• Mar 1, 2010 - 23:22

I did not have the time to search all given entries, so it might be that someone already has contributed this:

It is common in vocal parts to change noteheads to a cross if something is spoken. I tried to ctrl-click the notes and double-click the cross-head in the palette. The original head did not dissapear, the cross was added.
So I hid the original notehead (right-click, choose hide) and then was able to add the cross.

Annoying: I had to hide one notehead at a time. It would be nice to have a feature to select several notes with ctrl-click and then be able to hide all heads together.

After that, I tried to add lyrics. Ctrl-L did not work, since musescore did not recognize the hidden note as a note for inputting lyrics. So I selected the nearest rest and went to the note where I wanted to start inputting lyrics. Now ctrl-click worked and I could write them as I wished...

Probably, it would be better to first write the lyrics, then change the heads ;-)

By the way: in the process to add the cross to the not yet hidden note, the program did crash several times.

This works in the latest prereleases and nightly builds .

I'm curious about the crashes. Are you able to reproduce any of them consistently? Although some crashes are tricky to find they often only take two or three conscious repetitions to work out the steps.
