Mutliple movements?

• Mar 10, 2010 - 23:49

The biggest feature I'm missing in MuseScore is the possibility to include (or at least simulate) multiple movements in the same score.

As far as I am concerned, this is largely a typographic issue: the bulk of the layout can be achieved with the existing building blocks (breaks, spacers, frames, etc.).

The really missing point are the naturals added (to 'turn off' the old key) to the new key signature when it is different from a movement to the following one. An option to turn them off would be welcome!

Thanks,

M.

Thanks for the replies, but I was referring to something more specific

David's post is the right topic, but there is still a (small?) point left uncovered:

Assume I have a movement in G major (Dur? maggiore? uff!) and the following one in G minor. If I concatenate them (adjusting the layout with breaks, spacers, etc.), in the key of the first system of the second movement, in addition to the flats of G minor, I get an F natural to 'turn off' G major. This is correct within a movement, but looks strange at the beginning of a new movement.

I'll add the point to David's issue.

Thanks,
M.

There has been some discussion already about adjusting the way key signatures are handled from one movement to another. Perhaps there could just be a "Movement Break" option, similar to the page break and section break and spacer, though a movement break would override the courtesy key signature at the end of the line and would restate the time signature if not changed. This would be valuable to serious composers and copyists, as well as to beginning instrumental music teachers like myself who often print several short "ditties" on a single page.

Thanks for the direction, Robert. It looks to me (typical end-user) as though the section break is still in the "nightly" stages. Once it becomes part of the regular release, the needs will have been met. I look forward it.

Interestingly enough, I found a work-around. Today I printed a single sheet for my beginning violinists. It contains three short (8 to 10 measure) melodies from seasonal songs. Format would be similar to sections or movements. All three are in 4/4 time. I opened the palette and dragged a "C" time signature to the second section, then a 4/4 to the last section, then a 4/4 to the second section where I had just placed the "C". Now the all show the 4/4 time signature, as preferred.
