How to lengthen stems on beamed notes
How do I lengthen the stems on beamed notes? I have sets of four beamed eighth notes for a flute part and when I get to high G and above it is hard to read the notes because the stems are too short, causing the beams to cover up those little staff lines under the notes (whatever those are called). I have tried lengthening note stems overall and that only lengthens all the unbeamed notes like quarter and half notes. Thanks for your help.

You can double click the beam and use drag the blue handle.

I call them ledger lines.
I tried double-clicking and moving the beam between two eighth notes (after shortening the stems) but it doesn't respond. It turns green (it's the second voice on that staff), but when I try to drag it it just stays put.

Read with care:http://musescore.org/en/handbook/beam
"...with the right end handle being selected. Up/down arrow will now change the angle. Selecting left end handle and using the up/down arrow keys ..." Double-click the beam: you must have two handles, should work (Vista, 1.3)
