Handbell Notation Request

• Apr 3, 2015 - 18:30

I just downloaded the new version of Musescore and am trying it out. One of the first things i looked for was to see if there was any added handbell notations but i do not see any. This would be a great feature to have for those of us that write handbell pieces.

Absolutely,

My apologies for not providing some examples. I made the mistake of assuming. Handbell music has a variety of markings that instruct the player how to play the bells. For example, there is a notation called a martellato lift where the player will strike the bell on the handbell table and rapidly lift it off the table after the strike. It is represent on sheet music as an inverted triangle with an up arrow at it's right side. This notation would be used over each note to be played that way. Other notations include a tower swing or swing which is represented by a down arrow/up arrow, when to use mallets, singing bell notations, etc. I can provide a full list to you if you would like. Another item seen on Handbell music is at the top of the page, before the score begins, a staff is presented with all of the notes that will be used in the piece. It typically spans the width of the page. Again, I'm happy to provide a visual representation of this as well if needed. Thank you for the reply!

Have you checked the Symbols palette (press "Z" to display)? It has an enormous number of symbols. My guess is what you are looking for is probably there, although there are so amny symbols that *finding* them might be tricky. But according to the source code, there *is* a "handbellsMartellatoLift" symbol as well over a dozen others

Awesomeness! Yep, they are there. Thanks so much. Do you have any advice as to adding a staff at the top of the page that is not technically apart of the score? I've been creating a 34/4 measure at the start and placing all of the notes that will be in the piece there and then starting the score on measure 2. It's a fairly good work-around but do you have any suggestions to get around having to do that?
