positive vs. negative changes in MuseScore 2
To whom it may concern,
I just wanted to let you know that I quite pleased with the increase of the effectiveness of the software interface in general and the overall interpretation of playback as related to notation. That part of the update is fabulous!
However, the new sounds being used to represent the instruments themselves are ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! The voice sounds are sketchy at best and some are annoyingly off pitch on every single note. The brass sounds are ear-piercingly overbearing, the piano is far too clunky sounding, tympany and violins are too muffled and much much more. I never did or planned to do anything significant in the area of exporting wavs or other sound files from MuseScore 1 or 2 as live performances will always many many times better than anything a computer could ever produce, but any difficulties I may have had with quality of sound in similar efforts have been multiplied at least 100 times over.

Fortunately, you can use the same sounds from the old version of MuseScore in MuseScore 2. Read all about it at SoundFont .
A very few people seem to think the new sounds are worse, but most find them *much* better than the old - that's why the change was made. The old ones were among the worst of the available soundfonts in my opinion, the new ones are among the best. This is to be expected given the fact that the new sundfont is much larger - more data to work with. But if you happen to not like those sounds, there are other soundfonts that that are also *much* better than what was in 1.3. I'd recommend trying some of the others like Timbres of Heaven or GeneralUser GS before settling for the soundfont in 1.3.

I appreciate all the improvements in MuseScore2 (and that MuseScore is constantly being evaluated and worked on)!
But I have to say that, even though I know to expect it, I cannot tolerate how pitchy the new choral voices are! The worst ones make me cringe and halt every time.
I've been quietly using MuseScore for several years now and I actually just now created an account for the first time so that I could weigh in and post about this, because it was so important.
[Currently,I've been trying to find ways to export a MuseScore 2 file in such a way that MuseScore 1 can read and edit it (although I suspect that that cannot be done?) because although the previous choral voices do not sound superior, I can tolerate them. I have only just begun trying things out and researching online] because I quite enjoy entering scores in MS2 but may have to duplicate my work in MS1 and just go back to MS1 if I don't find a way to solve this]
I really appreciate everyone posting because hearing pitchy voices in such a good product was making me question my sanity;-)

I agree that the voice sounds suck. The only voice sound I've found that is decent is Voice Oohs in Timbres of heaven, which is very good in general.
I fully agree with that bad intonation is horrible, and that the site now has this as default.
Just adding my two cents about the sound font for voices. The intonation is terrible and the slackness of the "ah" vowel makes it depressing to listen to. Sure glad someone mentioned the option of importing other sound fonts.
