Evaporated score

• May 2, 2015 - 02:41

Using Musescore 2.0.0 Rev 6e47f74
I had just completed a roughly 180 measure score. I saved it.
Shortly thereafter I opened it, played it successfully, then closed it.
4 hours later I went to open it and it was blank.
Looking at the source file in the directory it is only 7kb in size. An earlier version was 39kb!
Somehow it got blanked: the only thing I did after playing it successfully was to close it!

My guess is the full version is in a different folder and you are simply looking in the wrong place. But if nothing else, the backup copy - same name but starting with a period and ending with a comma - is good.

I'm presuming from your description that MuseScore didn't crash at any point during this process, but if it did, you might also look in the C:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Progtam Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin. I had a lost score turn up there after a crash a couple of weeks back, which was handy because the backup file in the standard location was missing about 8 hours' worth of work. (This whole episode remains unexplained.) You might just want to search your entire drive for *.mscz just in case the file has moved to an unexpected location. Don't search for the exact file name, because in my case the file name had been altered by prepending the entire original directory path to it, with underscores in place of backslashes. It still had the .mscz extension, though.

Mark, Shoichi and ghicks,
thanks a lot for the advice. I didn't know the mscz, was the automatic back-up. The missing score, however, does not appear in the mscz, though I can see from other scores that the back-up is there. And no, MuseScore didn't crash at any point. Meantime, I'll make my own back-ups.
