Save a copy updates original and copy with changes

• Jun 10, 2010 - 06:40

This could be intended behaviour as it makes it different from save as, but if I save a copy of my file to a different folder and make changes to it, both files reflect the change.

Just thought it might be worth clarifying if this is an intended feature, and if it happens for everyone as reference if nothing else.

That's totally wrong. At least in 0.9.6, and I don't think it was ever right.
Save a copy does a copy of the score as the current state. If you change the score later and save it the copy is not changed !

Lasconic, could you please try the following and tell me if this does not occur for you:

1. Create a file in treble clef
2. Save the file and call it treble.mscz
3. Use 'Save a copy' and use the same filename treble.mscz
4. Change the clef to bass clef
5. Click 'Save'.
6. Exit program and open both files.
7. For me, both would now be bass clef.

Hence my query.

I am using version 0.9.6 (recently released version) in Linux.

Thanks.

For me there are different. Of course, I save the copy in a different folder than the original
Do you save the copy in the same directory than the original? if yes, you overwrite it and MuseScore should have prompt you before doing it. MuseScore has no magic to handle two files with the same filename in the same directory.

I was saving them in different folders, not overwriting them. The confusion is that 'save a copy' creates a copy and leaves you working on the original copy, so if you then reload the original copy of course it is altered (but the copy is not). If you choose 'save as' then you are left working on the new copy so if you reload the original file it is left as original (and you have altered the copy).

Hope that made sense!

Confused me!

Ok so i made an arrangement of Radioactive and saved it and the next time i went on the the computer and tried to open it it said "mscore.exe has stopped working" and then made me press "close program". im on version 1.1. i also tried attaching it in an email and sending it to someone that also has musescore but they couldn't open it either. is there anyway i can get the piece to open????
