Text style visibility option

I would like to suggest an option for text styles (Style → Text). I think it would be great to have a 'visible'-tickbox just as in the inspector. When using different parts, you could make those text styles invisible that are not relevant in a specific part while retaining them visible in another.

Has this already been discussed?

I like the idea, but I don't really understand the proposed use case. Are you thinking about things like tempo text that appear in all parts by default, and you want a way to supporess this for certain parts? You can accomplish that right now using select / all similar elements then pressing "V" to hide. But I could imagine other use cases for text that defaults to invisible. Seems I've thought of that before as a workaround to some limitation or other, although I can't recall any specifics.

In my case I wanted one score with and one without fingerings; of course hiding the fingerings is already possible by pressing 'v', but that unhides all those already hidden - which is useful, but sometimes confusing.

I could imagine more scenarios however: personal annotations, fret diagrams for the guitarist, phrasing slurs for a soloist, harmonic analysis, multiple verses for the singer etc. that might be interesting in one part (i.e. a leadsheet) while not for the other and most probably not in a full score - containing all those things mentioned above ;-).

I liked the idea of layers a lot, but I think a visibility check box for text styles could provide most of the functionality of layers in a very simple way (in terms of usability).

It would be very nice if the visible/invisible state of individual texts would not be touched, however. A certain comment for example should stay invisible however often you change the imagined general visibility check box in the text style preference.

Use the Inspector rather than "V" to force all fingerings to be invisible (or visible) rather than toggling the current state.

But from the rest of what you are describing, it does sound like the Layers facility is more what you want. After all, some of the things you might want to hide - like slurs, or fret diagrams - aren't text. It's mostly implemented, just never completed & tested. Might be soemthing we see for 2.1 or some other upcoming release.

Thanks for the hint on hiding via the inspector, however that doesn't change the fact that this way, all selected texts, whether visible or not, are made invisible altogether. My point is, it would be very nice if you could temporarily hide all texts of one style, then unhide them again - while those that were invisible in the first place stay invisible. Sounds like magic, uh? ;-)

But anyway, I'll be a willing tester of the layer feature!
