Automatically Transcribing Chord Names
A few weeks ago I migrated my grandfather from windows to Ubuntu. He uses his computer mainly to search midi files, open them in an editor, remove most of the tracks, transpose (etc) them a bit and print them so he can play them on his organ. On windows he did this with MidiNotate 4.0. On Ubuntu i installed Musescore for him. However there is one feature of MidiNotate which i can't find in musescore: automatically transcribing chord names. In MidiNotate, when the file does not have chord names, you can let the program calculate chord names for the entire song with a few easy clicks. In musescore all i can find is how to add every chord name manually. This really is a showstopper for him :/
Is it somehow possible to make musescore do this?

MuseScore does not have the capability of writing chord names out of a melody. It looks like a complicated algorithm to me, maybe something for a plugin when the plugin framework will be more complete. In all case, I guess this process will never be perfect and depends on the music style and the player level.

I thought about this too.
Perhaps there can be a function where a list of potential chords comes up if there's uncertainty from the current selected notes (if you're not familiar with chords). It might be too complicated as lasconic suggests?

I guess i'm gonna try to get Midinotate running under wine... My grandfather is used to that program and, as he is 80 years old, doesn't really like change and difficult programs. That was one of the reasons i liked musescore, it is really easy to use. I also had a look at rosegarden but i'm pretty sure that my GF wouldn't be able to use it because of it's complex GUI...
