Entering an arpeggio
Please bear with me a bit because I am a rank novice in all aspects of this endeavor. While entering the first five measures of the sheet music (for piano, I suppose) for an obscure 1896 military march that has never been recorded, I encountered an arpeggio that I can't figure out how to enter. At the end of the third measure are three half notes on the same stem, the bottom two of which are slurred to to two quarter notes on the same stem at the beginning of the fourth measure. So far, so good. The problem arises when I try to enter above the half notes a quarter note, dot, and two barred eigth notes all slurred to a third quarter note above the two quarter notes previously mentioned in the next measure.
After selecting the arpeggio tool, I click on the quarter note symbol which causes all three half notes to change to quarter notes. A secondary problem is that I don't know how to place the upper set of notes on upwar-pointing stems while leaving the lower sets of notes on downward-pointing stems.
If this is unclear, would a scan of the music in question be allowed?

It's better if you can scan a part of the sheet or link to an online version indeed.
You might find good information in the handbook : Voices . To inverse stem direction select a note and press Ctrl + X.

I had seen voices mentioned in the documentation but didn't have a clue about them.
Is there a usual bpm for military marches? Does 140 bpm sound about right?
When I finish inputting the sheet music, I will have the march in for a piano. However, I want it to be played by a band. Is this where templates come in? I see that people have developed them for miltary bands but can't seem to find anything about them in the handbook.
