Changing Instrument

• Jul 18, 2015 - 21:52

Does anyone know how to change instrument keys. I.e., I wrote an arrangement and one of the parts is for Bb Tuba, but I want to play it on my Eb tuba without changing the actual notes. How do I change my music so it still plays those exact notes(pitch wise) but it would play like a Bb tuba(i.e. the open notes still be on the Bb line, but that line not mean Bb).

Sorry if this is confusing; I hope someone will understand what I mean.

I *mostly* understand what you mean, but since you mention tuba specifically I am not positive. You can change instruments - including transposition - by right clicking a staff, Staff Properties, Change Instruments. But, tuba music is not normally transposed at all. Even though they are technically in Bb or Eb according to the design of the instrument, the music itself is normally written in concert pitch. Same with trombone, which is technically a Bb instrument in terms of its physical design but nevertheless written at concert pitch.

Unless perhaps you are trying to play tuba as if it *were* transposing instrument - that is, using trumept fingerings rather than the fingerings specific to your instrument. In which case, you could go to Staff Properties and just change the "Play transposiition" to whatever you need it be. It's not clear to me if it's *already* at concert pitch, or if it's currently written as if Bb tuba were transposing, so I can't quite tell what you are really trying to do. Posting the score itself would help.
