MIDI Keyboard not detected

• Jul 19, 2015 - 22:34

Hey guys,

I have an Akai MPK261 MIDI controller connected to my PC via usb. Musescore isn't able to detect it. I've followed the tutorial for connecting the device and nothing happens when I press keys on the controller. My other software, Ableton Live, is able to recognize it. On musescore, when I go to Edit > Preferences > I/O , the keyboard isn't listed. I'm running the latest version of musescore and have recently updated all drivers. Is it possible that my keyboard isn't supported? I really like this software and could use some help :)

thanks

First, I don't think you would normally see particular keybaords listed in Edit / Preferences / I/O,. so that much doesn't indicate a problem.

- did you remembert to connect the keybaord *before* starting MuseScore?

- is the MIDI input button on the main toolbar enabled?

- are you in Note Input mode when pressing keys on the keyboard?

MuseScore neither knows nor cares which specific keybaord you are using, so it can't be a matter of some particular keyboard not being supported. Either it successfully sends proper MIDI information or it doesn't, and it sounds like it does, so you should be good.

If you are still ahving problems are checking the things I mention above, please say what OS you are on and tell us what settings you see in Edit / Preferences / I/O.

I also cannot use my MIDI Keyboard in MuseScore 4!! Works fine in Ardour!
checked all the steps you mentioned in your reply. Preferences I/O shows the manufacturer in Midi Output, but not Midi Input!
It's an old and simple one. USB connected, called "Midi Starter" by "Miditech" !
Curios that it works in Ardour and other Plug ins like "Hydrogen Drumkit" as well that it is listed in the MIDI output field of preferences!!
OS is AVLINUX 21.3 (bandshed.net distro)
THx for trying to help!
Cheers
Dieter
