Pre-release versions

• Dec 4, 2010 - 12:47

I'm new to Musescore and very impressed so far. I would like to try the guitar tabs feature and so am interested in a pre-release version as I believe it is still under development.

However, it's not clear to me which version I need. http://prereleases.musescore.org/windows/ lists a 0.9.6.3 pre-release that has a Last Modified Date of 22nd Sept. So presumably that's actually become the current stable version. It also shows the latest nightly, which is presumably the one with the latest changes.

But http://musescore.org/en/handbook/comparison-stable-prerelease-and-night… implies that there should a version in between 0.9.6.3 and the latest nightly - it says pre-release versions are released every 4 weeks or so. I'm reluctant to try a nightly build as I'm not technically strong and don't want to risk something very unstable. Is it simply that a new pre-release version hasn't been issued yet or have I misunderstood?

Thanks

Prerelease version are issued only when the nightlies become stable enough. We should make this clearer in the handbook. As you guessed, there is no prerelease yet. You can try a nightly if you want, keeping in mind that it might crash and you'll not be able to open a file made with a nightly in the current 0.9.6.3 stable version. A nightly can be installed on the same computer than a stable and they should not interfere.

And maybe for clarity's sake, remove the 0.9.6.2 and 0.9.6.3 prereleases that show up when you click the link for a Windows prerelease version. I'm assuming both of those are obsolete.
