Problems with triplet rests

• Jan 16, 2011 - 14:03

The problem is such: While I’ m in the Note Entry Mode, I cannot create correct consecutive triplets or multiplets. Instead, strange rests appear, as I describe below.
In the attached file you can see the problems in the 1st measure (created while in the Note Entry Mode), and the 3d measure with no problems (here triplets were created while NOT in the Entry Mode).
I give you the steps that I took:
1st measure
Press N, create four quarter notes (do-re-mi-fa).
Stay in Note Entry Mode.
Move to the first note using Left . Press Ctrl+3. We have a triplet of quavers.
Move to the second note using Left. Press Ctrl+3. Oddly, we have a triplet of semi-quavers plus a quarter rest.
Move to the third note using Left. Press Ctrl+3. We now have a triplet of demi-semiquavers, plus a semi-quaver and a quaver. Most unusual.
And the same happens next, as you can see in the score.

The problem does not appear if we do the following:
3d measure
Press N, create four quarter notes (do-re-mi-fa).
Press Esc (leave Note Entry Mode) click on the first note , press Ctrl+3. This creates a triplet of quavers, while the N is highlighted.
Press Esc, to exit Note Entry Mode again. Click on the second note , press Ctrl+3. This correctly creates a triplet of quavers, while the N is again highlighted.
Repeat as above for the rest of the notes, leaving each time the Note Entry Mode.

Is it true that I always have to enter and exit the N - Mode in order to create consecutive triplets?

When you create the first tuplet, MuseScore expects that you'll enter the next quavers in the tuplet and so switch to quavers (take a look to the note duration toolbar). That's why when you go to the next quarter, MuseScore creates a tuplet on quavers duration and so 3 semi quavers and swith the current duration to semiquavers. And so on.
If you want to do 4 tuplets of 3 quavers in note entry you have to reset the duration by pressing 5 or selecting a quarter before doing Ctrl + 3.

Hi,
Firstly, Musescore constantly surprises me. I'm sure I've missed something in the earlier explanations, but I want to create a 4/4 score, minim rest on the first two beats, then a triplet of three crotchets to complete that bar. But when I press Control 3, I am offered only quavers and/or semiquavers for the triplet. It has no effect whenever I reselect the crotchet.
