How to clone a staff to create a second part with a different notation (key/signature)

• Jan 15, 2016 - 01:07

A tenor trombone player generally reads music in the F key in C (ut), but some players prefer to read with a G key in Bb ...
I want to create two parts, where one is immediately following all changes in the other part, like an already generated part is following changes in the score or vice versa.
Now I have to copy the content manually.

If I hide the copied staff in my score (same part, just another notation) the brackets for my trombone section are not displayed correctly any more.

Other example: Basstuba in Bb in F key, but some players prefer G key. I want to create 2 notation versions (parts) from 1 staff.
Problem for realtime cloning might be the different manually corrected stem and slur directions, also the articulation positions and the position corrections of dynamic symbols... The cloned notation part can be muted of course.

I am thinking of similar staff functionality like the additional tablature staff for a part.

Or did I miss something?

As far as I know know there is no good way to automate what you are trying to do. The pieces are all there, but they don't work together the way one would want in order to make that viable. At least I don't know of a way. I find it simpler to change the transposition of the part just before printing rathert than trying to maintain both parts. Same as I do with concert and transposed lead sheets. But indeed, if there are lots of manual corrections, I'll just save a transposed copy and hope to remember to keep the copies in sync.

If you do elect to add the other staff and hide it, it shoudl be possible to adjust the brackets to look correct, though. If you are encountering difficulties, feel free to post the score and explain further.
