full measure rests in the 2nd voice in non 4/4 measures

Hi,

I'm having trouble with entering full measure rests in the 2nd voice in non 4/4 measures. Fex. in a 3/4 measure I can only get a dotted 2/4 rest at most. Is there a way to get 4/4 full measure rests in the 2nd voice in non 4/4 measures?

On the assumption that you have nothing in any of the voices then simply selecting the measure and pressing Del should do the trick I think but re-reading maybe I am not understanding your problem. What I have found in that in a voice if you progressively delete you finally get left with a dotted half rest which in theory should delete to nothing, i.e. the voice ceases to exist in that measure.

Easiest way is probably enter the voices the opposite way, so you get the full measure rest in voice 1, then exchange the voices. We do provide a command - Ctrl+Shift+Delete - to convert a rest to a full measure rest, but I don't know that there is a way to get it to work in voices other than 1. It was intended mostly to allow you to put a full measure rest in a pickup or other partial measure. I guess we should consider making it work for this case. In my experience, full measure rests in voices other than 1 wouldn't be very common, though - what is your use case?

Thanks, Ctrl-Shift-Delete only works on voice 1 but exchanging the voices does work.

My use case: I'm copying some classical guitar music which uses just one staff for multiple voices. My source has these rests so I'd like my copy to have them too. I must say some other versions simply leave them out, so I'm not sure what the convention is. I suppose these rests are not strictly required (since there are only melody notes and no bass notes anyway) but it does help me a bit to have them.

Keyboard music, and closed score choral music is riddled with full measure rests in voices other than one.

Any time you are wishing to show contrapuntal parts in closed score format this issue arises.

I currently get round it by using a full measure rest from the symbols section of the master palette.

It would be great to be able to enter them normally though.

I'm still a bit new to musescore so I haven't had a look at the master palette yet. After reading your comment I did, but the full measure rest from the palette is slightly smaller than the normal one you get by entering from the toolbar. Sadly I'm ocd enough to want all my rests to be the same. It also can't be moved by using the cursor keys.

Another way that hasn't been mentioned is enter the notes in Voice 1. Then exchange voices 1 and 2 twice (Edit > Voices) so that the notes end up back in Voice 1, leaving a full measure rest in Voice 2.
