drum notes in 'my first score' -need fixn'

• Feb 5, 2016 - 03:16

I wrote drum notation for snare & toms only in 'my first score'/basic -prior to learning to use
drum set palette/advanced!... I wish to add bass drum quarter notes (stems down)
without disturbing those notes or attaching the stem. (so the bass drum quarter notes appear individually and with stems down. Is there any solution?

Have you read the Handbook section on "Drum notation"? If that doesn't answer your question, please post the specific score you are having problems with and describe exactly what you are trying to do.

I was confused about your question. You said you had successfully added snare drum notes, so I assuemd you had successfully added a percussion staff. I guess you really just added "regular" notes to the existing staff? If so, then you *can* easily add more "regular" notes to the same staff with stems down - see the Handbook under "Voices".

But again, without seeing the actual score you are having problems with, all we can do is guess, which is why my answer wasn't as helpful as it could have been. I'm glad Zack was able to guess better than I (and that he was able to remember your other thread), but if my guess here is correct, then in fact what you want *is* perfectly possible. But indeed, in the future, when creating percussion music, you should start with a percussion staff and everything will go more smoothly.

yes, thank you Marc... all I could do was eliminate the treble clef to make the 'my first score'
appear as a drum tab. Because the handbook said editing was possible even after a score is written
...I went ahead with several scores of notation because of the easy manipulation of the notes in 'my first score'. *Now that I have figured how to use advanced/percussion palette, I am on my way with proper implementation of drum set notes!
**I was trying to rescue all the previous work done in 'my first score' and it appears not possible.

Thank you for your understanding and I respect you and your help!

Actually, it should be, by copying and pasting content from the original standard staff onto the percussion staff. The trick would be be to get the pitches to match. For instance, the snare drum is MIDI pitch 38, which on a standard staff works out to the D two octaves below the staff. So if you transpose all your snare notes to that pitch, then copy and paste to the drum staff, they will be converted to snare drum. Again, if you post the actual score you are havbing problems with, we can advise you more completely.
