Newbie
Hello
OK here goes. I'm a total newbie and to make things worse probably tone deaf (lol). Got a bit of interest in the software as I like the idea of platying around with these things once I know how they work. I did play the guitar a little quite some years ago and even learnt to read a bit of music, so basically I'm on a big earning vurve at the moment.
There seems very few tutorials for the software so thats why I'm resorting to the forums.
To learn the software I thought I'd try and duplicate the old favourite Greensleeves that I used to be able to play on the Guitar.

I'm struggling right at the very start. I've set up the 6/8 timing and struggling to get the first note in the proper place at the end of the first bar. Then it seems after that I am struggling to get all the notes in the next bar to even fit / stay in the bar.
It would be most appreciated if someone could give me some step by step instructions or even a video [[nodetitle:www.screentoaster.com]] (just found this free site for recording screen shots) to get me started.
Next litte thing is that I have downloaded the various sound fonts listed on the site and none really seem to be very close to the good old classic guitar.

have a look at the attached screenshot.
Create a new score.
When you come to the "Create Time Signature" window: this is the crucial bit for your piece.
You will find many answers in the handbook.
As kb points out you need a pickup measure at the beginning. For more details see Create new score , "Time signature, pickup, and number of measures".
For the next measure you will need to read and understand voices

Great that has helped loads.
Next thing is as per the attached image when I entered the last row of notes its seems to have spanned them to the next bar and I can not add any more than one on each voice.

You have an eighth rest in there. When you add dotted-quarter note click where the eighth rest is currently is instead of after the rest. For more details see Note entry in the handbook.

Thnaks for all your replies.
However I think its just too much as I'm hitting stumbling blocks all the time.
Unless someone can give me the shortcut key strokes to produce the first few bars so that I can get an idea.
Otherwise I Just got a copy of Mixcraft which may be more of my capabilities.

if you are still following this conversation:
you took on quite a challenged piece for your first try, so you where brave.
Concerning MixCraft, you might be disappointed with the notation capabilities of a sequencing application.
As you were talking about screen casts in your first posting, you may want to have a look at these very well made screen casts:

Yes I am still following the post.
I have already watched the complete set of videos at least twice now. I think what also doesn't help me is my lack of knowledge on sheet music. Thats why I was also trying to tackle the software to aid in a bit of learning at the deep end.
With MixCraft, yes the notation is pretty awful to say the least. My main concern is that with both pieces of software instruments also seem to be pretty unrealistic as a standard. The Mixcraft does work very well with the loop midi's which my kids (8 and 6 yo) do like to play with.
