Ledger lines extend when note is moved horizontally

• May 25, 2015 - 21:00

As shown in the attached snip, I horizontally offset the notes and stems in the 2nd ending to give more room for the tie slurs. The ledger lines did not move with the note heads, but extended instead and ended up being too long to the left of the note.

What does that mean, Offset the Chord? The only way I know to move it is by selecting the stack of elements and use the horizontal offset setting in the Inspector. And since it won't let me move notes and stems together I have to move the notes and then move the stems.

Besides, this isn't a chord issue. Any horizontal offset of a note with ledger line(s) causes the elongated ledger, even if the note has no stem.

There are two horizontal offset fields in the Inspector - one for the note, one for the chord. The former moves each notehead individually. It is only meant for cases where you *don't* want all noteheads and the stem to move together - which is to say, hardly ever. You should instead use the field in the Chord section of the Inspector, which moves all noteheads and the stem as a unit.

A "chord" in MuseScore doesn't necessarily mean multiple notes. It means the notehead and stem together - plus the other components of what you might normally think of as a single note, like flags, dots, accidentals, etc.
