Ability to set default folder for both "Open" and "Save"

• Jan 11, 2011 - 21:27

r 3507 XP3

When I first boot up Musescore, and load a previous file, and want to save it under another name, I select "Save as". Instead of going to that folder it goes to my "C" Drive and I then have to click, click, click to get to where I want.

I have my working directory set to the general folder I want scores opened from and saved to, but this doesn't change the behaviour of this instance, and I can find no place to set this default. I would really appreciate the ability to set this.

Thanks.
Regards,

Yesterday the file I was working on disappeared on me! After some searching, I found that it and others had been saved to C:\program files (X86). Previously, they had been going into My Documents. I created a folder in MuseScore called songs, and successfully saved a file there, but then that folder disappeared too. I went to look at the songs stores in the (X86) pathway and they are all gone too. I have a desktop system, running Windows7, and use Firefox. First of all, why did my folder disappear, and second, how can I set a default file save location? Thank you.

It is better to save all your documents in the My Documents section or the desktop. The Program Files is only for software (not documents). Disappearing folders would not be related to MuseScore, so I don't know why you are experiencing that. However if you were saving files to the Program Files folder then installing new software (to the same directory) might delete the files. It is also possible you logged in as a different user when you started your Windows session. But these are all random guesses.

The default file save location for MuseScore is in Edit > Preferences. In the General tab there is a section labeled "Working folder". Click the browse button on the right to change it to another location.

I agree with not saving docs under Program Files but I've been wondering for some time why the MuseScore sample docs are all in Program Files, when they should be installed into My Documents/SomeSubFolder. I hope this is corrected for v1.x or v2.
