MuseScore 2.0.2 did not start on my Windows10

• Feb 27, 2016 - 14:00

I just installed MuseScore on my Windows 10 pc (64-bit) and tried to run it without success. When I started it, it immediately closed itself without showing anything on the screen. I also tried the unsupported versions with the same result.
Then I reinstalled the standard version and tried to run it with the -d (debug) commandline option. To my big suprise MuseScore then started and runs without any problem.
I hope this observation may be useful to other users who reported the same problem (and maybe to the developers to tackle this issue).

Just for info: I run MuseScore 2.0.2 on my 3 PCs, one in Windows 7 Home Edition, one in 8.1 Home Edition and one Windows 10 Pro 64 bits without problem.
(At least without problem to start MuseScore, I'm a beginner and still struggle to write my partitions ;-) )

I've been using MuseScore on Windows 10 with no trouble until last Thurs. 2/25. Didn't use it for a few days and tried again today. I got a pop up message "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000143). Click OK to close the application." I tried repairing, and even uninstalling and reinstalling and still having the same problem. I suspect it is an update from Microsoft that is messing up my computer as updates seem to come in on Fridays. Perhaps the MuseScore developers can look into this issue relating to Windows 10.

I too cannot get MuseScore 2.0.2 to open in Windows 10. The main program and the start up icons show up in my task bar, but will not open. How this happened, yesterday I was working on a score, saved it, then later tried to open it, and other scores as well, to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled numerous time with no change. I even shut down my firewall and tried to launch with no luck.

Also, I don't know if there is a connection, but after upgrading to the latest version, I could not open any scores written in earlier versions. Fortunately I've save most of them in PDF, but I can no longer work on them with out starting over, and that is assuming I ever get 2.0.2 working again.

MuseScore was an amazing tool. I really miss it.

Hmm, 2.0.2 should have been perfectly capable of opening older scores. What went wrong when you tried? Feel free to post one of the scores you were not abke to open so we can if there is something wrong with it.

Are you using Windows Firewall or some other? See the above posts - you need to have the actual Windows Firewall running in order to run MuseScore on Windows 10, apparently. Maybe some recent Windows update changed this behavior, or changed some firewall setting on your computer.

Also, see the Handbook under "Revert to factory settings" - this does a more complete job than uninstalling and reinstalling. And, when in doubt, be sure to reboot.

After reading your response, I clicked your attachment and it opened perfectly. I closed it and tried to open the program from the shortcut and it opened fine. Windows 10 seems to have a tendency to play tricks on its users. One time I turned on my computer and all my files were gone! Nothing on the desktop. I restarted and then they were back. I'm glad to have my MuseScore back as I have some projects to work on.
