Add descant
My song is in unison until you get to the last measure. On the last measure, I wish to add a short soprano descant of just a few measures. In other words, I need to add another stave above the melody line, but the stave should begin only on the last measure of the song. How do I go about doing this? I have tried to read the handbook and forums, but can't seem to figure this out.

What you're describing is called an ossia, and MuseScore doesn't support this. In your particular case, you might be able to fake it by creating the staff for that part, making sure those last measures are on a system by ithemselves, then using Hide Empty Staves under General Style. If you do a search on the term ossia, you should find other discussions on these forums, and perhaps find other workarounds for caes where it isn't feasiable to have the syste break just so. One that comes to mind - create the ossia spearately, save it as a PNG file, then place it as a graphic.

Thanks for the tip on the terminology. So, it sounds like I would need to create an additional staff to run throughout the score, but then hide all of the additional staves until I get to the last measure. Thanks!

Having seized the notes, additional staff is rendered invisible by using the menu "Style / Edit General Style / Hide Empty Staves." Only measures of this staff in the latter system will be visible, and only the empty bars of it (3 or 4 max.) Should be made individually hidden ...
