Can you start MuseScore, make sure that Jack MIDI is selected in Preferences > I/O, and then click the "connect" button in "Jack Audio Connection Kit" window (top left in your screenshot). If you do so, and Jack is configured correctly, then you should see Mscore in the MIDI tab and you should be able to connect it to Kontakt

I don't have Kontakt Player 2 or Garittan. I downloaded Kontakt Player 5 (free) and the "KONTAKT FACTORY SELECTION" library. I'm on Windows 8.1.

Tools you need
* MuseScore 2.0.3
* Jack and JackCtl
* Carla for windows (I took the 32bit). Carla is a Jack enabled to MuseScore will talk to Carla via Jack, no need for virtual cable like loopbe.
* Kontakt Player 5 and the factory selelection library

MuseScore

* Make sure that you can play with the default synth. Load a score, press play, you should head sound.
* Go to Edit > Preferences > IO. Choose Jack (make sure that Audio and MIDI are ticked)
* Quit MuseScore

Jack

* Install Jack
* Run Jack Control and make sure that the setup parameters look like the following. The server prefix is important. jackd -S -R -X winmme .

Just with this, you should be able to play the MuseScore playback through Jack. Meaning MuseScore will use the default soundfont and its default synthesizer but it will send the audio to Jack and the Jack will send it to the system. To try this, Run MuseScore, then in Jack Ctl, click on connect and connect the mscore outputs to the system playback. Press play in MuseScore or in Jack ctrl and playback should start.

Kontakt

* Install Kontakt, Install the sound library. During the installation, take note where the VST are stored.

Carla

* Install Carla and run it
* Go to Settings > Configure Carla > Paths. Choose VST and make sure the path to Kontakt vst is in.
* Restart carla. Press Add plugin, look for Kontakt and double click the on with 8 output for example.
* In Carla, switch to he patchbay view and link everything like the following. You send the carla midi in to Kontakt and Kontakt to the audio output of carla.
shot_160501_191102.png
* switch back to the rack tab and click the cog icon, it should display Kontakt UI. Press Add library and load the library you want to use.

Jack again

In jack, make sure MuseScore talks to Carla in MIDI and Carla talks to System playback in Audio.
Press play in MuseScore, you should now hear Kontakt playing.

Please note that if you use Carla 32bit you are currently limited to 32bit VST plugins.

If you have 64 bit plugins in your library then you will also need Carla 64bit.

The developer is working on 32<>64 bit bridging, but to my knowledge hasn't yet completed it for Windows, although I haven't checked on development this month.

Hello Lasconic,

I've been following your excellent tutorial above and everything worked except for the final part where Carla is not showing those connection lines as in your screenshot and MuseScore is not playing through my ARIA Player.

I have all the inpouts and outputs boxes but can find no way to connect so I have those lines in your screenshot.

I'd be grateful if yourself or anyone who has suggestions could help.

Thanks.

OK .. I discovered how to draw those lines/cables to connect the MIDI and Audio "Carla" as shown in lasconic's tutorial above.

However, now I can't find how to link up with Carla in "Jack". Once i achieve this I think I'll have full playback of MuseScore through the Garritan ARIA Player.

I'd be grateful if anyone could help with this last link.

Thanks.
