Accidental issue

• Sep 6, 2016 - 18:22

I do not typically use key signitures. In one measure I have 4 quarter notes that are all f sharp. Why does the accidental show up on all 4 notes?

It is an alternative. If you do not use the key signature or the accidentals how the viewer can read it correctly?
I apologize if I did not understand, meanwhile welcome aboard!

Yes. All 4 notes in the same measure are f# in the same octave and there is a # in front of each note. I have the handbook which is very well put together and informative but I don't see anything pertinent.
Yes I am running 2.03.

Thank you for the welcome. Great program.

In order for us to do more than guess, it helps if you attach the score you are having problems with and give us precise steps to reproduce the problem.

In this case, I will guess that you are trying to use the toolbar button to ask for the sharp. The toolbar button always added a sharp, whether needed or not. It works that way so you can force courtesy accidentals where you want them. But if you don't want a sharp on every note, then simply don't enter it. Tahat is, if you've already entered an F# earlier in the measure, then the next F you enter is automatically F#, even though no accidental appears. So don't press the sharp button, and all is as it should be. Only press the sharp button when you want to actuall see a sharp.

“Always be nice to your Gentle Musician.”   Better to redundantly tell him what he already knows, at the risk of him somehow being offended (he won’t ...), than to leave him playing the wrong note in public . . .
