Joachim Ganseman built a "skeleton" version of MuseScore for Mac OS on 2 December. Ganseman warns that the version is "certainly not ready for publication" but an important step towards a working version for Mac OS.

Over the past couple of weeks Samuli Järvinen, Arnaud Moreau, Johan Pauwels, and Joachim Ganseman have been working on a Mac OS version of MuseScore and discussing their results or troubles on the developers mailing list . Statistics

The website saw a growth of Mac users during the past week with approximately 80 more visitors than the previous week. The website typically receives between 30-50 Mac visitors each day (see graph below). Mac users represent about 4.25% of total website traffic.

This looks extremely positive even from this stage (not having run it or anything obviously).
It seems that if the font problem can be fixed, then at least it could display the necessary musical elements on the screen.
This will be a significant addition to the music notation market on the Mac once it's up and running.

As a mac user I'm really looking forward to the first native version of this software. So far the results seem quite promising.

There is a bug in the QT software which MuseScore is built on and which causes the font issue. The next QT release is scheduled for March 2009, so we hope the mac development can continue then.

Joachim Ganseman gave the MuseScore Mac build another try this month and shared his results on the MuseScore mailing list. He has been digging further into the QT code to find a solution for the font issue but unfortunately it still didn't result yet in a Mac release. If you know a Mac developer, feel free to point him at the MuseScore mailing list. Joachim has been doing a great job so far but sure can use some extra support.
