You look to be on an older version of MuseScore, current is 3.5.2 but I'm not sure that affects you situation. You also have a playback loop turned on which may affect what you are doing. To turn it off, click the round arrows to the left of the repeat sign on the toolbar.
Have you tried using the portable appimage? What version of Ubuntu is this? And, like mike320 said, try with the latest version of MuseScore to see if it helps.

I have the latest version of app image and using ubuntu 20.4.
This isn't a problem with running on Ubuntu specifically; it's something occasionally happens on any OS if the monitor resolution cant be detected properly. See #106241: Monitor resolution detected incorrectly, making sizes wrong.
The main workaround is to use the "-D xxx" option to specify the display resolution in DPI explicitly. On some systems it may also/instead be useful to set or unset QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR, See discussion in the linked for other suggestions if neither of these works for your particular system, but I suspect that will do it.
