Strange page amount changes between machines

• Dec 17, 2020 - 11:59

Hello,
Derek Benton did this score for me:
https://musescore.com/user/6053266/scores/6506418
When I opened it and export to pdf to extract texts, I found the pdf has 20 pages instead of 14. I tried both 3.5.2 and 3.6, and neither of them give correct page amount. But Derek, who uses 3.5.2 too, gets correct page amount and sent me a correct pdf. I also saved the score on my machine, and found it reduces the size from 75kb to 51kb. I'm attaching both the saved Musescore pdf files, so that you can compare with the one he published. I've reverted my Musescore to factory settings, and the page size is A4 portrait, same as him. What's wrong? It's always frustrating that Musescore will rudely alter the page amount of a score, not like other notation software which will only change page amount when big modification is done such as adding or deleting lots of notes/staves.

Hi there, Those line break and spaces are ONLY in his exported PDF copy and not in my original. In fact, when I export it (one both the website and on Musescore), I get the formatting all correct - see attached. The problem is that for some reason, for Hu Haipeng, when he exports to PDF it is adding line breaks - it looks like it seems to be reading some spaces as carriage returns.
Could it be some local settings on Hu's machine. I use A4 format for my scores, for instance. However, I'm unsure why a perfectly fine copy on the website would PDF incorrectly.
Any ideas would be welcome. Derek

It's very odd. Yes, I can replicate the problem if I download the .mscz file. It seems to be converting spaces I've used in tempo markings - ie if I've put in crochet = 92 and included the word "Moderato" before it, each space is read as a line break. Basically, the downloaded .mscz file isn't an exact copy of my own. I may simply email him my original .mscz files instead if they're somehow being corrupted when downloading from the website. Any suggestions?

From my previous conversations with Haipeng I trusted that you had done everything correctly. I now see that your score should be 14 pages. I didn't even look into the source. Haipeng had said he downloaded 20 pages and the PDF was 21 pages long. This means the PDF is downloading properly so Haipeng can just get the PDF from there rather than making one in MuseScore. He still needs the properly paged version that he can either grab from here or you can send it to him.

Problem is in tempo markings - there are added spaces and new lines each tempo marking. Remove them and layout will be OK.
