Any way to mute notes on playback (but keep chord playback)?

• Dec 28, 2020 - 20:28

I sometimes need to put timing info on lead sheets, and the only way I know how to do it is by entering notes and changing the Head Group to Slash. That means that on playback, a 'B' is played for every slash along with the chords.

I didn't want to put this in the Feature Request forum because it's definitely not worth requesting. Or maybe there's a better way to enter slashes that aren't on quarter notes?

Thanks.

I use 'Fill with slashes' a lot on standard lead sheets, but I need more info on timing in this particular case. "Fill with slashes" defaults to quarter notes and if I pick one and change it to an 8th note I'll see 4 slashes (plus the 8th note slash). In the original post I attached a sample of what I'm doing.

However, I did just now (within the last 5 minutes) discover 'Toggle Rhythmic Slash Notation' and I guess it defaults to not playing 'B's for the slash notes? That should save me some time. Thanks again.

Indeed, to reproduce what you showed in your example, Toggle Rhythmic Slash Notation is exactly what you want. Enter any pitches you want, then run the tool and they all change to slashes like that. Silent by default, but you can re-check "Play" for those notes after running the tool if you did take the time to enter reasonable notes first. I sometimes enter the roots or bass notes, occasionally even full voicings at least before chord symbol playback was a thing.
