Broken File
Hello, I worked on a project earlier on today. I saved and closed it. Now it can't be opened in the program. I have tried to find backups and I couldn't find any on this particular project. If anyone could repair it I would be really grateful.
Thanks in advance

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I guess the file is broken beyond repair. Such a shame :(.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening in the future? It's the second time this has happened to me; where I've made something I was really satisfied with and can't recreate it from memory.
Best wishes

You're the only person I know of that claims this has happened to them twice so it's not likely to happen to you again. As Jojo mentioned, look for backups, most of it should still be on your computer unless you did it all in one short session.

Thank you for the reply. It was a version of another file that I built this composition upon and then saved as a standalone file with a different name. I can only find backhup for the first file, not this one. But thanks for the affirmation that this is not an usual occurrence.
Kind regards

It is an unusual occurrence and I'd be shocked to hear it happens to you again. There should have been an auto staved score that starts with SC in Jojo's link to look for backups.

My best advice regarding to safeguarding yourself from this or any other problem that might result in losing a file is to have automatic backups set on on your system. Back in the day I had a physical backup drive and special software it came with that automatically backed everything up. Since the advent of things like OneDrive on Windows, Time Machine on macOS, or Google Drive or Dropbox for just about any system, I just rely on that. In my case, I mostly rely on Google Drive. Every document I save - whether from MuseScore or another program - gets automatically synced to my Google Drive. And Google Drive manages older versions for me, so if a file somehow gets destroyed, I can revert to an older version easily. The other services I mention work similarly.
In fact, if you are one Windows, unless you went out of your way to disable OneDrive, that would normally be set up by default, so you may already be take advantage of that.
