connecting "feathered beams"
Is there any way to connect feathered beams across a collection of semiquavers rather than to simply have it separate?

Select the first note of the 2nd group and set it to "beam middle":

I suppose, the OP is looking for similar like this:
I'm not sure, if it's possible with beam middle to get this result or if it's a missing feature.

hmm.. that might indeed be less easy as once connected the beam becomes a single beam.
A possible workaround could be to move the 2nd part to voice 3 and duplicate the overlapping note

Probably a workaround, I didn't check it.

As far I can see from this resource, it should be a generally valid use in sense of "behind bars".
