Image Capture Improvements (Slice Page Export, System Export, etc.)

• Jan 29, 2021 - 17:42

As a music educator, the image capture tool is extremely useful. The overall process for excerpting parts of a score is a bit tedious as it is currently implemented, however, because you have to open a save dialogue box for each image capture, change the filetype, and then select a new area to capture. Compare this method with Dorico's approach, which allows you to slice the score, rename the slices, and export all of the slices to a folder. Having this feature in MuseScore would greatly improve the workflow for academics and music educators.

In the interim, it would be wonderful to have a default "export" current boxed area with a select default filetype (ideally vector based) that you could invoke with a hotkey, rather than using the mouse and clicking through save dialogue boxes.

Definitely some room for improvement, but I'm not quite understanding the suggestions. First, what do you mean by "slice" here? And why are you changing the filetype each time? Also, what do you plan to do with these images? Normally I don't bother saving them at all, I just do Ctrl+C to copy the image to the clipboard then paste directly into the target application. Only time I need to mess with actual files is, annoyingly enough, to post examples here in the forum.

Also, there are four preset size/position combinations you can define and use, cleverly called A, B, C, and D :-).

I've tried to comment, but it seems as though the moderator is not letting my post through? Anyway, here is the "slices" feature that is in Dorico (https://www.rpmseattle.com/of_note/graphic-slices-new-features-in-doric…). A slice is essentially a selected area that gets exported from the score--I believe it's a term that was developed for web development, whereby a graphic artist slices a design into multiple subcomponents so they can assign hyperlinks and such to it.

For Musescore, basically I would love to have a more robust image export system that would allow me to export multiple images at the same time. This would be huge for music educators and students.

For music scholars, we often have to have a variety of file types, e.g., png for web, svg/eps/tiff for publishing companies, and so forth.

So basically you mean, a way to specify a bunch of regions first, then export them all in one go, rather than define region, export, define region, export, define region, export, etc?

Makes sense. Feel free to enter this as a Suggestion into the Issue Tracker so it doesn't get lost.
