In order to assist, we would need you to attach your score and give precise steps to reproduce. Also say what OS you are on, what settings you have in Edit / Preferences / I/O, and whether you have any non-default soundfonts loaded (View / Synthesizer).
I seriously wish that WASN'T necessary, because it seems to happen seemingly at random! Can you please find a way to help us by fiddling around with it yourself? I'm having the same problem, and I'm running 3.6.2 on Windows 10, and it's actually starting to hurt my ears! I haven't been able to work on the scores I've wanted to for MONTHS because of this! The severity should be much higher.
One thing I will note is that it tends to happen more frequently with the Honky-Tonk Piano than it does with the Bright Grand Piano.
All settings are at default. No custom soundfonts are used.
I don't hear a problem in a quick run-through. So whatever is going on must tied to something more specific - perhaps a particular measure of the score you are editing, or specific things you are doing to it, or a particular setting you've made in MuseScoreor in your OS, or particular hardware or drivers or other applications on your system. One can wish we had magic powers, but we don't - we need your help in reproducing a problem in order to investigate further.
I will suggest one thing - you say all settings are at default, but just to be 100% sure, try Help / Revert to Factory Settings.
I reverted my settings back to their original factory settings, as you suggested. No change. The audio still buzzes. I think the severity should be increased, because, as I said before, I can't work on my projects with the buzzing being so bad that it hurts my ears.
Changing the severity won't change the fact that we need you to help us understand the specific characteristics of your system that lead to this, so we can reproduce the problem ourselves. Otherwise there is nothing we can do. That's the important first step you need to take before we can do anything. Once you provide us with that assistance, then we can ascertain how much of the fault lies with MuseScore and how much with the other program or device on your system that is triggering the issue, and then we can better ascertain the actual severity of the problem in MuseScore specifically, and then we can prioritize actually fixing it. Again, none of this process can begin until you help us understand and reproduce the conditions that lead you to experience this problem on your particular system.
That's really hard to do when I don't know what causes it myself. I just know that it happens, it's random, it's physically painful, and it needs to be fixed asap. If I can't reproduce it consistently, maybe someone else, maybe even you, can. I hate the fact that I can't get help on an issue that happens with no rhyme or reason just because I'm unable to reproduce it consistently. I just post it when it happens.
If I can't get this issue fixed, I just might have to stop my projects altogether (since I can't afford Sibelius or Finale), and that would break me.
All I know is that I'm on Windows 10 64-bit, that all my settings on MuseScore are on default (I even restored it to factory settings), I'm using the HQ Soundfonts, and I'm running the Portable version from a 64 GB USB 3.0 flash drive since I don't have my own personal computer (and am nowhere near close to affording one). I don't know what the processor on the computer I use is, I don't know what sound output device is, or any of that. If that's not enough information, I can't help you any further, but I still expect the issue to get fixed.
I can't reproduce it even once - it just doesn't happen on our systems. The issue you are experiencing is almost certainly due to hardware or software problems with the computer you are using. But if it's not your computer, you probably won't be able to do much about it. So perhaps for now see if you can find a different computer to borrow. Also, a new computer capable of running MuseScore can be had for around $150, a used one for far less (probably even free if you look hard enough). I definitely recommend pursuing that. You obviously care about this, so I do hope you take my advice on the best way to get the problem fixed.

Play it back, and you'll see what I mean. And if you don't, then YOU figure out how I got the buzzing and fix it, because I have no idea!

I always run the latest version of MuseScore, BTW.
