Muted Brass Channels in Symphony Orchestra Template
The mixer entries for horn and trombone (Expr) in the MuseScore_General_HQ.sf3 sound font include channels for muted horn and trombone. Scores created with the Symphony Orchestra template using the same sound font do not include these channels. Why is this so?

That's a bug in the template, those channels had been added to these instruments, but apparently some (?) templates using those had been forgotten. Please file it in the issue tracker

I’m away from my computer for the next several hours, so I’m just thinking out loud here, but how can I fix this? If I delete the instruments (and their notes) from the score and re-add them via the Edit Instruments dialogue, will this allow access to the muted channels?
Looking ahead to when this issue is resolved, can I apply a fix to existing scores?
[EDIT] I just read your post in the issue tracker. It it possible to fix without editing the MusicXML file?
Thanks!

Yes, just change the instrument, to the same it is already, keeping long and short name

The score is fixed, but it was not as easy as I envisioned.
The horn parts worked first try. Simply "changing" to the same instrument did the trick.
With the trombone, changing the instrument did not immediately allow the muted channel, even though the settings appeared identical to the horn parts. In the end, I went through the steps again and reset the Staff Text Properties (more than once, it seemed) and the muted trombones would play. I don't know what I did differently to make the instrument finally obey the mute command.
At least I didn't have to delete the recalcitrant instruments and start from scratch.

I just tried with using the Symphony Orchestra template and simply setting the "Trombone 1" part back to Trombone in Staff/Part Properties, and it worked as expected in terms of adding the channel. But if you had already added the texts, results would probably be undefined.
Had it not worked, BTW, adding a new instrument then copying/pasting the contents of the old before deleting it would also have worked - certainly no need to start from scratch.

As the staff text properties only showed 'normal' before that change, they won't have been used for switching channels anyhow.

No doubt there was some degree of errant clicking on my part, so I'm satisfied that it worked out in the end.
To be sure, I had some confusion navigating between the Staff/Part properties, Staff Text properties and Mixer Channels, and I'm not sure I did things in the same order with the Trombone as I did with the Horns.
