How can I make single note dynamics work?

• Apr 10, 2021 - 21:07

A person showed me a really cool soundfont and it sounds so good! However, I asked him/her that the single note dynamics don't work, and she replied with "the single note dynamic changes works on those soundfonts with CC2 as suffix, so try using the sound with cc2." How can I do this? Btw, here is the soundfont: https://musescore.org/en/node/278859

Assumning you've set up the soundfont and synthesizer / mixer settings appropriate, you also need to make sure the instrument itself supports SND - see Staff/Part Properties.

Beyond that, you also need to have a start and end dynamic on the same staff for MuseScore to use in determining the amount of change, andor set thedesired change in Inspector.

If you continue to have trouble, please attach a score demonstrating the issue.

HI all. Ran across this and still need help. In almost all of my scores, I am using a really beautiful free violin custom soundfont called "Violin All Around". It is within an .sf2 file, and has a smooth quiet attack and a truly melodic sound. It responds just fine to Dynamics marks such as "p" or "f" ... but it ignores all hairpins, whether within a measure or across one. I have the synth set to Single Note Dynamics and CC2 as default, but this violin ignores the commands. It is possible it is just not set up for SND, but ... is there anything specific I can try to get hairpins to work? If so, PLEASE be kind enough to give me the step by step instructions. I have read the Handbook and it still escapes me. Thanks in advance.

In many soundfonts, you can get SND if you switch the CC to something else 11. I understand 11 is often a good choice. Also be sure your staff is truly a violin staff and has SND enabled in Staff/Part Properties.

I'm assuming, BTW, you are still using MuseScore 3 for whatever reason. FWIW, this will probably work correctly right out of the box in MuseScore 4, although if it's not a General MIDI standard soundfont, you might have trouble getting pizzicato to work. But it also very likely that you'll find Muse Strings to be considerably better than this soundfont anyhow.

For Pete's sake, it WORKED. I changed the synth setting to CC11 instead of CC2, and ... IT WORKED. Hairpins now work on the violin. I can't thank you enough. Wow! Now, hopefully, CC11 continues to work for all other instruments in my score. If not, I'll be back for a solution. If so, Wow!
