Hello

How do i set up a score to have 4 measures per line??

seems everytime i start a new score it has 18 measures per line....

For the record, though, it's only 18 measures when those measures empty. They automatically respace themselves as you add notes. So adding the system breaks isn't normally necessary, unless you have a special reason to want exactly four measures per line (common in lead sheets and music for children, mostly).

My sheet looked crammed and terrible until I did this:
go to FORMAT then STYLE then MEASURE and change the
MINIMUM MEASURE WIDTH...I changed mine to 20.00 to achieve 4 or 5 measures per line depending on your score.
just fiddle with it a little, and it will work and print out nicely!

You can do that, but the results are not actually optimal. If you want looser spacing, you will get more consistent results more easily by inserting line breaks, for example with Format / Add/Remove Line Breaks. or increasing the Spacing parameter in that same dialog, which will increase things proportionally. Increasing the minimum measure width will result in uneven spacing with the line.

I'm making a sheet of separate "licks" or "Lines". My first line has four measures. I'm trying to get rid of the other measures of rest MuseScore adds (5 of them). I've tried to put in a "Break System Every Four Measures" but nothing happens. I've tried deleting the measure and nothing happens. Isn't there a simple way to delete the left over blank measures at the end of a line? And yes, I play jazz and we like 4 measures to a line also.

I also am trying to get 4 measures per line (or 5 measures per line, or any specific number of measures per line). I removed system breaks, but I still get 3 measures in some lines, 4 in others. This is for a lead sheet and original file was an .xml sent to me from my piano teacher who uses Finale. But even if I start my own score I can't figure out how to get an set number of measures per line - the software seems to adjust as it sees fit.

The reason you get only 3 measures in some lines is because there are so many notes/rests in the measures that only 3 will fit between the page margins. To get more you need to do one or more of:

Select a larger page size
Use narrower margins
Use a smaller scale spacing

All those settings are found at [Format]>[Page Settings]

Once you have adjusted those setting to get at least 4 measures per line you can then set system breaks every 4 measures at [Format][Add/remove system breaks].

As mentioned above, if there are no breaks and you get only three measures, that must be all that actually fits given your current settings, so you will need to change one or more settings. If you attach your score, we can do a better job of guiding you to the specific settings you need to change - those details can different from score to score, especially for scores that come from MusicXMl import where the original settings could are not under our control.

In scores you create yourself, Format / Add/Remove System Breaks will set breaks every four bars, and in most cases that's all you need, the default setting should allow "most" lead sheets to fit four bars pert line. but if your song is mostly sixteenth notes and/or has a lots of lyrics, you might even so need a smaller font to fit four measures on some systems.
