I rather often run into this trap: I want to open a file from the file open dialog.
I don't find it, so start the Windows explorer and then open the file from there (while having left the file open dialog open).
And bang: Windows starts a 2nd instance of the program, telling me that the first one has stopped to work.
I don't know of this is a problem of MuseScore or finally of Windows...

Workaround (and strong hint that this is indeed a Windows issue):
in Edit > Preferences > Advanced untick "ui/application/useNativeDialogs" (causing MuseScore to use the Qt file dialog rather the native Windows Explorer dialog)

Works perfect! And what's even more: here I see the pre-view of the scores - a demand that I had for a long time...
should be set as default for Windows setups, in my opinion
It used to be the default for Linux, and Linux only, and IMHO should be made the default for Linux again, see #297613: File save can't determine file type without extension. Not sure whether it should be made the default for Mac and Windows too (I'm not convinced), but maybe it should get exposed better in the preferences settings
Why do you start Windows explorer as the native file-open dialog is already Windows explorer ?
What can you do in Windows explorer that can't already be done in the native file open?
