Bar numbers not working

• Nov 12, 2021 - 10:31

I have a file which I modified to conform more to a "jazzy" style presentation.

Now I can't change the bar number settings at all. Ideally I'd like to have bar numbers every bar, so that I can refer to them.

See attached.

Doesn't work with a download from this post - BUT it does work if I close MuseScore, then re-open it.
Should I expect that? If MuseScore is already open - possibly with other files - maybe not - then it doesn't seem to work.

Re the bar numbers - yes - I know about the anacrusis - and how to adjust the bar numbers as I want them to be.

I don't know what a relayout is. Thanks for checking - and looks as though the matter is at least temporarily solved - though I'd rather that whatever kind of glitch caused this could be flagged and eventually dealt with.

If you can give precise steps to reproduce a problem, we can begin to investigate. but to be clear: for me, if I change the bar number settings on your score, it works exactly as expected. The only glitch I know of happens for the first system after a section break where sometimes after certain edit operations the number is displayed incorrectly.

Relayout is what MuseScore does after every edit - to not only display the note you added or other change you made, but to then adjust the rest of the score accordingly - like if you add notes, a measure needs to get wider, other measures need to get narrower, etc. Normally MuseScore only lays out the specific portion of a score affected by an edit operation. But occasionally something goes wrong and something that should have been flagged as being affected isn't. Certainly operations do trigger the entire score to laid out again, like say, select all then transpose an octave and back. So that can be a way to clear up any such temporary glitches. And again, once you have precise steps to reproduce the problem, we can begin investigating.
