Formatting parts in a score

• Mar 9, 2022 - 13:07

When trying to format the individual parts in a score written with Musescore 3, I find I cannot select the individual notes, rests, or barlines on the LAST THREE staves on a page. All other staves behave normally. When I use the mouse to try to select any of these individual elements it returns the page for setting the 'Headers and Footers' which does not help me to, say, take a new line/page, etc.
What could be the cause? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is this a bug? Is there a workaround?
I find the situation infuriating as I have spent weeks writing this score, which I am not prepared to share at present, only to find I cannot finish the job.

Please share the score, so we can take a look.

Maybe you'd need to remove and re-generate the parts, as possibly some corruption crept in

Thank you, and Marc for your comments. After some more experimenting I found that if I removed the intended copyright (a multi line, multi paragraph piece of prose), everything worked as normal. So it appears that the problem lies with the copyright notice. In my case the physical size of the copyright was probably excessive - multi-line and multi-paragraph - but it appears to me that a ghost image of the copyright seems to exist on ALL pages, giving rise to the opening of the Headers and Footers Setup Page when I click anywhere near the bottom of any page. I don't know the mechanics of how the copyright printing is restricted to Page 1 only (using $C) but it looks to me as if this does not remove the copyright from all other pages, choosing instead to hide it. If this is true then perhaps a re-think is necessary by the undoubted experts at Musescore.

Possibly the "Music bottom margin" is too small. That would mean the last systems would intrude into the footer space. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/layout-and-formatting#style-page

I find the interaction between the different margins is difficult to intuit and have to experiment with the various adjustments available when I run into such difficulties, but it usually makes sense once I have found the right combination.

Wow, great detective work, you are exactly correct! As far as I can tell, this is already fixed for MuseScore 4 - at least, I can't reproduce the problem in current nightly pre-alpha builds.

Meanwhile, using a frame for the text is a good workaround, probably just as well anyhow as mentioned.

As noted, we need the score in order to understand and assist. Do not worry if it's not done or whatever, this is a support forum, not any sort of official publishing venue.
