Soundfont files still appearing when deleted

• Mar 19, 2022 - 03:24

I installed 4 different piano soundfonts (all sf2 type files), but after deciding I didn't like any of them I wanted to delete them. Musescore's official guide says to delete the files from my computer, but even after doing so (and deleting them from my computer's recycle bin) they still appear when I go to synthesiser->add. Does anyone know why this is happening, and how I can fix it?

Did you add those fonts in the fluid tab and hit the make default button. If so, all you should have to do is open the Fluid tab again and select and delete them. That means MuseScore won't use them to play anything. If you truly don't want them, then delete them from your MuseScore/Soundfonts folder. That is the folder you saved them in?
There is another place you can put fonts in. Program Files/MuseScore 3/Sound. If you put fonts in both places, you would need to delete them from both places also.

I never made any of them the default soundfont. The issue isn't that they're shwoing up under the fluid tab (because I deleted them from there), it's that they're still there when I go to 'Add' for other soundfonts. And the soundfonts weren't saved under my the soundfonts files - I never moved those sf2 files anywhere, they only appeared under my 'recently downloaded' tab. I did check my soundfonts file though, and there was nothing there.

I installed a few of them from musical-artifacts, and after they installed I opened them in musescore. After messing around with them for a bit I deleted the files. Like I said, I didn't move them to any other folder, and after looking in my musescore files they're not there either. I'm quite confused on where musescore is getting the files from if I've deleted them from everywhere I can think of.
edit: @Jojo-Schmitz I didn't about accessing that but after deleting the file it was importing soundfonts from they've all gone. Thank you so much!

As mentioned, there are two separate folders where it gets the files from - the one in MuseScore's own installation, and the one in your Documents area. You must have accidentally put them in both places but only deleted from one. It doesn't look anywhere else unless you told it to in Edit / Preferences. So those files are still present on your computer in one of the places MuseScore is looking. If you believe otherwise, please post pictures of your Edit / Preferences dialog showing the list of folders where MuseScore is looking, and the contents of each of the folders listed.
