making note invisible
Hi, I'm working on a music worksheet for piano students. In a former version of musescore, I was able to right click on a note or rest and choose a menu option that made the note invisible. This seems to have changed in the current version and I can't figure out how to do it now! Thanks for any help.

That works on one of the staffs but not on a subsequent staff (all of which I have separated with horizontal frames). For example, look at the attached graphic: In the upper right corner (bass clef), the note is hidden but the leader line is visible, which is what I want. Now look at the second row, second staff from the left (bass clef). BOTH the leader line and note are hidden, which I don't want. Lastly, look at the end staff on the same row. Again, I was able to hide the note but not the leader line. Help, I'm confused. ??

Instead of a picture, could you attach your MuseScore (.mscz) file?
It appears you are not using the Bass clef, but rather the Baritone clef. As a result, your labeling of the C notes is misleading. What you label C is actually E because of the clef you chose. (Carefully examine the position of the clef's two dots.)

Oh, wow, great catch - thanks! I made the appropriate corrections for the bass clef. That said, doing so didn't solve my problem when it comes to hiding notes on the ledger lines - well, not completely. That is, it works on some of the staffs but not on others. I've attached the MuseScore (.mscz) file. Upon opening this file you'll notice a bit of overkill when it comes to my experimenting to see if there is some kind of pattern when it comes to hiding notes on the ledger lines, but I will only address the C Major triad and the inversions. Notice that I am able to hide the C note on the C6 treble clef and the middle C note on the bass clef while keeping the ledger lines visible. (see the attached photo of what this all looks like when I combine the staffs with a piano graphic after generating a PDF of both). Unfortunately, when trying to hide the C6 note on the 1st inversion on the treble clef it ends up hiding the ledger lines as well, BUT I am able to hide just the C4 note on the bass clef for this inversion while allowing the ledger line to appear. The 2nd inversion of the triad doesn't allow me to hide just the C6 and C4 notes without also hiding the ledger lines. And if you look kat the MuseScore file you can see this is the case for all the different chord types I have created thus far. And while there does seem to be a pattern (though there is at least one inconsistency when it comes to the bass clef of the 1st inversion for Csus4), overall, the inability to not being able to hide ANY note on a ledger line while allowing the ledger line to remain unhidden doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. My ultimate goal here is to hide ledger notes on the 2nd inversion for triads, and 3rd inversions for tetrads as a way of indicating where the next higher octave of C is located on the keyboard. (Again, refer to the attached photo of my screenshot of the final product, which only shows the C Major triad and inversions and how it all comes out as a result of what gets hidden and what doesn't.

I think I see the pattern - if these are the only ledger lines present they get hidden, but if there are others that need to be visible, they are all made visible. This seems the result of the way the algorithm tries to avoid leaving notes "stranded" without ledger lines if other notes in the chord on the same side of the staff get hidden, but probably notes on the opposite side of staff shouldn't factor into it.
Anyhow, I also can suggest workarounds. If your reason for having this note is for the playback effect, a better way might be to add it on an invisible staff, or in another voice on this staff where you can make the whole chord invisible. Trying to make some notes within a chord but not all can leave MsueScore a bit confused about which ledger lines to show, although normally it's not this confused. if your reason for wanting the invisible note is something else - like you plan to add fingering - then you may be able to use the "fix to line" property in the Inspector to make a note on the staff appear as if it is outside it, or vice versa, and perhaps that will allow you to do whatever it is you are trying to do, a different way.

If this is what you want:

Open your attachment and follow these steps:
1. Right click on a note -> Select -> All Similar Elements then, in the Inspector, click the Reset (curved) arrow to make all notes visible.
2. Right click on a C6 note -> Select -> More... then click the box 'Same pitch C6' -> click OK. Then, in the Inspector, click on the 'Color' box and set the Alpha channel to 0 (zero). This will make all C6 noteheads transparent.
3. Do the same for the C4 notes; but once all the C4's are selected you must Ctrl click the C4's in the treble clef to unselect them from the list before you change the alpha channel. (There are approximately ten C4's that you don't want to hide.)
Here's the end result:

Also, in general, many things that formerly required you to bring up a modal dialog, make a change, and then clsoe the dialog are now done directly by the Inspector you see on the right of your screen if you haven't closed it (View / Inspectoror F8 to bring it back if you have). Visibility is a checkbox there, but the "V" shortcut means you seldom need even that.
