Decrescendo does not work.

• Jun 19, 2022 - 01:26

I apply Decrescendo line at the final bars of the song.
But it does not work.
Nothing happens; the sound does not fade.

By default, a decrescendo fades to the next lower dynamic marking in your score. If there is no next marking, it has no effect.

Best practice is usually to just add one. Make sure the decrescendo doesn't overlap it vertically, or it won't register it as coming after.

If your intentions don't need to be clear to a potential reader, you can also alter the playback manually. Select the decrescendo, scroll to the bottom of the inspector panel, and type a value for "velocity change". For a point of reference, most neighboring dynamic levels differ by 16.

I really appreciate your attention and answer.
But I could not understand it at all.
For example:
"By default, a decrescendo fades to the next lower dynamic marking in your score.
If there is no next marking, it has no effect. Best practice is usually to just add one.
Make sure the decrescendo doesn't overlap it vertically, or it won't register it as coming after."
And
"Select the decrescendo, scroll to the bottom of the inspector panel, and type a value for 'velocity change'".
I did not find this option as described.
If possible, attach some illustrations to make it simple.
Thanks a lot.

While you are figuring this all out, I might suggest not worrying about velocity yet. Much can be done with dynamic markings and hairpins. In your example the harpsicord fades out naturally. Obviously, you couldn't have a crescendo on a long keyboard note.

My mistake, my fault...
As per all answers and suggestions (with no solution given), I understand that Crescendo e Decrescendo have nothing to do with Fade In and Fade Out.
At least the way I want to apply, as shown in my example.
MY OWN SOLUTION:
- export mscz file to wav, mp3 or similar file;
- edit exported file using Audition, Sound Forge or similar program;
- specific Fade In and Fade Out tools will be found, to be easily used.
Repeat, this is for what I need as shown in my example.
Thanks to all of you.
