Took up the special offer for the Pro version as a replacement for a certain troublesome AVID product but no email received on how to switch my free Musescore version to the pro version. How do I get this as no email received telling how to do this

And be aware of what you sign up for; there is no Pro version of the MuseScore notation software. It always has been and will be a completely free program.

There is a pro version of the score sharing site, but not of the notation software. So it isn't a scam.
AFAIK, open source programs only have free versions. Not like paid software. Sorry you had trouble with Sibelius. It works for me.

The email you got was not about the notation software - it was about the score-sharing website musescore.com. Similar in some ways, I think, to a site called "Scorch" that you might be familiar with from your Avid days. Anyhow, musescore.com offers free and paid accounts, and it's a valid service many people do think is worth the money. So as mentioned, it's not a scam, just a service being offered by that company that you can either choose to pay for or not. But that's something you'd have to decide for yourself after reading more carefully about what that service entails.
