This has happened to me before. Is it possible for you to copy-paste everything into a new score or does it not let you open the score at all?

It doesn't open at all :(

Yes, there was quite a problem in opening this score.
This is what I did:
1. Open the .mscz in 7-Zip
2. Delete the Excerpts folder
3. Extract the .mscx file to a different folder
4. Try to open the .mscx file in MS3: file is corrupted, so choose Ignore
5. The file opens OK in MS3, so delete the parts
6. Save the score as .mscz and close the file
The .mscz in MS3 format now opens in MS3 without any reported errors. But unfortunately it still crashes if you try to open the same .mscz file in MS4, with the message:
File "" is critically corrupted and cannot be processed"
I tried exporting the score from MS3 as an XML file, in both compressed (.mxl) and uncompressed (.musicxml) formats. But MS4 still would not open the file. I am out of ideas at this point, sorry!
Perhaps someone else with more knowledge can export the .mscz file in MS3 as uncompressed MusicXML and repair it with a text editor?

On a second attempt, MS4 did indeed open the .mxl file successfully (without any error message).
So I attach the compressed .mxl file for further experimenting!

Thank you. You saved my life. I was already thinking that I had to start all over again.

No, I'm sorry, no help is possible.
This file contains 45 kByte of zeros. It is irreparably damaged!
Search for a backup version in the hidden folder ".mscbackup". If there is a file, you will have to rename the extension to 'mscz'.

For me it says "Cannot open file '(file name)' as archive" when i try opening the .mscz file in 7-Zip. Any idea why?

The zip structure is probably damaged. Perhaps the same reason as for some files above: the contents are only bytes with the value zero.
Try to open the file with an ASCII editor to check it, or attach the score.
Would anyone be able to help me with recovering this file? The first one is the corrupted file and the second is a backup that is also corrupted. Thanks

Files are full of zeros; nothing can be recovered.
My file is also corrupted. Can some one help me out or is it un recoverable?

You can try to unzip it, open the mscx file, and resave it as mscz. Or just download this file and resave it

And also extract the .mss and load that as the style
Question is why 4.4.2 does report it as corrupt when in fact it is not?
4.4.3-dev has the same issue (my 3.7 opens it though)
In the logs:
So something about the ZIP format is wrong, yet 7-Zip can open it. But indeed Windows' Explorer's builtin unzip can't
7-Zip sees Headers Error, "There is Data after the header data"

Ok. Do you know why this happens? This is the 2nd time I've lost a score to this error.

Maybe you can tell us?
What happened? Blue screen? Reboot? System update? Battery dead?
